I stumbled upon a new research product / prototype from Microsoft which, in my rightest opinion, is expected to be a direct competition to Apple iPhone.
What is LucidTouch?
LucidTouch is a Microsoft Research Product which allows users to interact with the screen by touching the back of the gadget as shown in the photo below.
Features :
- The users get the visual feedback which has the "pseudo translucency" effect. By touching the back of the gadget one can "see" their fingers images on screen which let them interact with the display.
- It has multi touch interaction where the user can interact with all his/her 10 fingers (logically only 8 fingers!! Thumbs are used to grip the gadget).
- Pseudo transparency lets users to accurately acquire the target without occluding the screen with their hands (which are now behind the gadget).

One thing is for sure. The next generation is going to grow up with devices like LucidTouch, iPhone etc. I can see an end of Paper books and School Bags.
