How to turn your iPod Touch into an iPhone which uses Mobile network?

There are a million blog posts by lakhs of technology blogs on turning iPod Touch into a phone. But the truth is All those techniques make use of Wifi and VOIP.

Here comes 2 innovative solutions from China, named Apple Peel 520 and tPhone, which can actually convert your iPod Touch to an iPhone. These allows us to attach a sim card (Yes, a sim card) and place calls and send sms using iPod Touch.

Apple Peel 520
China based Yosion Technology, which is based in Shenzhen, has developed the Apple Peel 520 protective case, which will be available online for about $57 with a one-year warranty

It is powered by Infineon chip. What more, it comes with
  • dock connector
  • built-in 800mAh battery (rated for 4.5 hours of talk time and five days on standby)
  • SIM card slot

Issues (as on 14th September 2010) :
  • Impossible to adjust Voice level
  • Quirky SMS delivery
  • (Probably) unable to identify missed calls.
But what the heck, I think this small sacrifice is ok considering that this concept is revolutionary..

The tPhone
Yet another Chinese solution by a Chinese company SINA which has hit the market on 12th August 2010, the tPhone is going to convert you iPod touch into an iPhone. It is expected to cost about $103 and comes with
  • Dock connector
  • SIM adapter
  • Mini USB for power charging
  • 1200 mAh battery
  • Plastic Case

Cons :
  • About $ 30 expensive than Apple Peel 520
  • Super duper thick

Videos of tPhone converting an iPod touch to iPhone is not available yet.

Conclusion :
We are going to have more solutions coming up for sure in future.. My iPod touch is just waiting to place its first mobile call..
